Ras Association Domain Family 1A Gene Promoter Methylation as a Biomarker for Chronic Viral Hepatitis C-related Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Background One of the most prevalent aberrant epigenetic modifications found in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is abnormal DNA methylation. Our study aimed to evaluate serum Ras association domain family 1A (RASSF1A) gene promoter methylation patients with chronic viral hepatitis C (HCV)-associated liver cirrhosis and without HCC as a potential new marker for early detection HCC. Methodology The 60 participants who participated trial were divided into following three groups: 20 newly diagnosed primary on top HCV-related cirrhosis, age- sex-matched healthy individuals control group. All underwent methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction testing detect blood level RASSF1A gene’s methylated promoter. Results Methylated was 30% caused by HCV 65% HCC, but not any controls. It discovered that had an accuracy 82.50% area under curve (AUC) 0.825 separating from With AUC 0.675 67.50%, it able differentiate those cirrhosis. Additionally, there no statistically significant between status mass size (p = 0.449). Conclusions Serum could be useful detecting early, especially high-risk such HCV.
